Watercolours - information
This site is about my watercolour paintings. My favourite subjects are people (usually doing something rather than being formally posed), harbours, estuaries and boats. However I don't exclude other subject material, I just paint scenes that move me to try to capture the mood or essence of the subject.
All my paintings are pure watercolour, I never add gouache or acrylic paint. I only use the best materials, mainly Winsor & Newton artists tube paint, and acid-free cotton-rag paper from a number of UK manufacturers.
Nowadays I prefer to use half-imperial sheets, that's to say approximately 20 inches by 13 inches, but I also paint on quarter sheet: 13 inches by 9 inches or so. Most of my paintings are in landscape format, but that's not by design, it just suits the subject matter. Obviously, for portraits I might use portrait format!
My personal taste is to use a relatively limited palette of paints, based on the so-called secondary palette, but with a small number of earth colours added. I find this combines colour harmony with a full range of available hues.
This probably sounds a bit lame, but I'm never happy with the photos of my paintings, they always lose a bit of life somehow, and look much better in reality.
All my paintings are for sale, except where stated otherwise. However I'm not geared up to offer a Web shopping trolley with credit card payment etc. If you see one that interests you, please do
This site uses AD Gallery for displaying my paintings. Thanks to Anders Ekdahl and all involved with the project.
